Drug Screening Facts and Statistics
5 great reasons to implement a drug screening program!
  1. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 74% of illicit drug users are employed and drug abuse costs Corporate America over $85 billion annually.
  2. Drug and alcohol abusers accounted for almost 80% of the losses due to theft in the workplace In 2006.
  3. Approximately 8.3% of the population (20.4 million Americans) are considered illicit drug users. This means that over the last year, a member of this group had used a drug such as marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used nonmedically.
  4. No industry or employment group is immune to Drug Abuse. For example, the Restaurant industry has a drug abuse rate of 17.4%% while the Construction industry is at 15.1%. Teachers and SOcial workers have almost a 5% rate.
  5. Less than 50% of employers conduct drug testing on their new hires. If your company is not performing drug screening on new hires, you must beware! You may be interviewing applicants that only applied for a position at your company because they know your company will not detect their drug use!
